Jennie Garth Shares Her One Effortless Rule For Eating Healthy & You Can Do It Too

Former Beverly Hills 90210 star Jennie Garth has always been a confident woman with undeniably good looks, but after a painful divorce from Twilight star Peter Facinelli, whom she had been married to for 11 years, she let herself go a bit.

"I spent a couple of years lying in bed being depressed,' she told People.com. It was that "˜I can't breathe' pain."

After turning 40 in 2012, the actress decided brooding was of no benefit and found motivation to get back in shape. She hired a personal trainer and adopted a healthy diet and dropped a whopping 30 pounds in a span of 6 months.

"I got rid of the old and in with the new. A lot of exercising and a lot less eating. ... I decided to start taking better care of myself."

In the same interview Jennie shared with the world her secrets to staying in shape which included a diet consisting of greek yogurt, salmon, salads and coconut water as well as a workout regimen of personal training sessions, light gym exercises, and hiking.

A few years later, Jennie is looking better with age and once again revealed some of her top tips for maintaining a healthy body.

The actress currently adheres to a gluten-free diet, and opts for fresh food as much as possible to help her keep the weight off. She also believes that being in the right state of mind is crucial.

"You have to remind yourself what your priorities are," she told People last fall. "And remind yourself about staying healthy and living a healthy life."

Besides this, Jennie has one really simple rule she and her family abide by to make sure they're eating as healthy as possible. Click on the next page to find out what it is.

Losing weight and keeping it off is definitely not easy but Jennie she found a loophole that didn't involve counting calories, adding up points or tracking meals.

So what's her secret?

"I just don't buy anything that's in a box or can," she told People.com. "We cook every night and eat fresh, healthy and clean."

By sticking to this rule the mother of three knows exactly what she's putting into her body and she's getting maximum nutrients by mostly eating fruit, vegetables and protein.

"I'm always a crazy vitamin lady," Jennie said.

Since a healthy lifestyle is all about balance, Jennie likes to indulge every once in awhile by baking sugar-free treats. She makes it a family affair by enlisting the help of her daughters and while she's at it, she'll have a few bites of white chocolate, which she admits is her "weakness."
