We all know Jamie Oliver as a charismatic chef and restaurateur, but this TV show host has been dubbed a hero by his neighbors earlier this month after he caught a burglar who tried to break into his home.
According to the Mirror, Oliver chased the would-be-thief out of his multi-million dollar estate and then "aggressively" tackled him on the street.
A source told the publication that the incident was "understandably very scary," as the Naked Chef star was at home with his family, his wife Jools, 43, and children Poppy, 16, Daisy, 15, Petal, nine, Buddy, seven, and two-year-old River, when the failed robbery occurred.
"It was an instinctive reaction "“ he was just trying to do the right thing," they said, adding that he had the suspect pinned down in the neighborhood until authorities arrived .
"Jamie was alerted to something wrong when he heard a massive commotion coming from his neighbor's house."
"He was set to investigate but before he knew it, he was face to face with the burglar himself as he tried to smash his way into his house as well."
"Jamie went absolutely mad and sprinted after the man down the street before catching up with him and pinning him down to the floor."
The insider added that Oliver was shortly joined by "his driver and a handful of neighbors" who helped him detain the criminal until authorities arrived to the scene.
"As well as protecting his family, he is very community spirited and cares just as much for the welfare of his neighbors as well. That's probably why he leapt into action."
His neighbors are praising the celebrity chef's quick-thinking, highlighting his noble character.
"It was just a brave, selfless thing to do," one of the 43-year-old's neighbors shared.
"Despite the clearly very hairy situation, Jamie was laughing and joking with the coppers saying they'd done a great job to arrive so quickly after the 999 call."
"Everyone is really thankful for his quick thinking and courage."
It's reported that the burglar is the same individual who broke into supermodel Kate Moss' Highgate, North London mansion.
A spokesperson for Scotland Yard said that while the suspect is in custody, the investigation is still ongoing.
"At 7:13pm on Tuesday, 4th of September, police were called to reports of an aggressive male attempting to gain entry to residential addresses in N6."
"The male was apprehended by members of the public and was subsequently detained by police."
"He was taken to a North London police station where he remains at this time. Officers from Central North Command Unit are investigating."
The Olivers bought the eight-bedroom home for £8.9 million ($11.6 million USD) in 2015, and had it entirely renovated from its previous 1970's style.
