The family of the late James Brown are in mourning after the death of Venisha Brown, the musician's daughter with the late singer Yvonne Fair.
The James Brown Foundation confirmed Venisha's passing in a release, revealing that the 53-year-old's "cause of death was due to complications from pneumonia." She was hospitalized at AU Health Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia.
Venisha, who took after her father, was also a "multi-talented songwriter and musician" and "one of the few who fully embodied the dance moves of her father," who passed away on Christmas Day 2006.
"The family thanks everyone for their prayers and telephone calls. At this time we ask that you respect the privacy of the family," the statement read.
Venisha's half-sister, Dr. Yamma Brown, took to social media to announce the sad news and pay tribute to her sibling.
"My beautiful big sis Venisha has received her angels wings..." she wrote on Instagram, "My heart is broken but I am comforted by the peace you now have!!! I love you sis."
The Godfather of Soul's daughter has also been a key part of the foundation and played an active role in the James Brown Academy of Musik Pupils (J.A.M.P), which is "a musical, instrumental, initiative year-round educational hub designed for the youth to discover their musical ability."
At this time, funeral arrangements are pending, but those who want to pay their tributes, the family is asking for a donations to J.A.M.P in lieu of flowers.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Venisha's family during this extremely difficult time. May she rest in peace.
