Do you remember being 13 years old? At that age, it seems that fitting in means everything, and while we certainly want our children to have enough confidence to stand apart from the pack, we also don't want them to feel bullied and out-casted.
Christin Johnson wanted nothing more than to make her daughter feel beautiful and special on her birthday, which is why she decided to treat the young teen to get her hair done.
When Johnson's daughter, Kelsey, returned home from the salon, she loved showing off her gorgeous long blonde hair.
Sadly, as it turns out, Kelsey's father and stepmother apparently thought there was something wrong with her new "˜do.
According to Johnson herself, Kelsey turned 13 in January and her only wish was to have her hair highlighted.
While Johnson agreed to take her, Kelsey's father and stepmother didn't like the idea one bit, so they took matters into their own hands when the birthday girl showed off her lightened tresses.
The pair allegedly cut off Kelsey's hair, telling her: "Actions have consequences."
This is what my daughter looked like Sunday when I took her home and the other two pics is what happened today before she was brought to me... all over me having highlights put in her hair for her birthday!

According to Liftable, both Kelsey's father and stepmother are Middleton Township firefighters, and since the shocking incident, they have been placed on administrative leave.
Kelsey's aunt later created a fundraising page for Kelsey to get justice for the heartbroken teen, but it has since been taken down.
After Johnson shared her daughter's story on Facebook, along with a link to her original fundraising page, some commenters accused the mom of exploiting Kelsey.
"WHY in the world would a loving mother EVER put this on social media???? This poor girl has zero people who care about HER! Getting back at Dad and SM by going against his wishes and THEN posting his idiotic discipline to disobedience on FB? YOU ALL are sick!" Amy Kelly commented. "Think about your child and not yourselves for once. More than likely, you have convinced yourself that you did nothing wrong, which in and of itself says so much about you and your lack of parenting."
Others agreed that what Kelsey's father did was abusive, while many even suggested that Johnson hire an attorney right away.
I'd like to thank the ladies at Lady Jane's on Glendale in Toledo, OH for making my baby feel more like herself!...

"This is nothing but emotional abuse and defamation of this beautiful young lady! Her dad probably despised the mother and takes his anger out on his own child! What a weak little POS! I hope she's never subjected to seeing her father again, and I hope that couple rots in hell on earth," Gee Jayelle commented.
Giota Brown also wrote: "If he hated it that much why is it that he didn't shave her hair off on Sunday when her mother took her there but instead her dad waited till right before taking her back to her mom's where he and his wife held her down while his wife's niece butchered her hair with the clippers? He's a sick bastard! He wanted to hurt his ex wife when she saw her daughter delivered to her crying and humiliated."
Some, however, reminded others that Kelsey clearly lives with her father and may have gone through with the highlights after being told not to get them.
"She clearly lives with the father. Read the description of the fundraiser. She wants to "get the daughter back with the mother " maybe her dad told her this would happen if she did that and she defied him ? Maybe Kelsey knew this was going to happen and did it anyways. ? Perhaps she deserves it ? Sounds like a bunch of man hating jealous single moms here," Jerilee Greene commented.
