Alright everyone, buckle up. We're about to go on a roller coaster ride.
Joe Biden's son, Hunter, was revealed to have been married in mid-May, just one month after meeting his wife, Melissa Cohen. According to E!, Cohen is from South Africa and living in Los Angeles. The duo met, got matching tattoos, and tied the knot all in the same month...so clearly they love adventure.
“She seems very happy," Cohen's father said. "I’ve only spoken to Hunter briefly. She’s a very special girl. She has lots of poise and she’s very present.”
A whirlwind romance isn't all that strange, but when you consider that Biden had recently gotten out of relationship in April, you've got to wonder if maybe this is a rebound. Plus, the relationship that had just ended was with his late brother Beau's widow, Hallie.
Beau Biden passed away on May 30, 2015 from brain cancer. Two years later, it was reported that his widow, Haillie, had started dating Hunter Biden. The news was then confirmed by both Joe and Hunter Biden.
"Hallie and I are incredibly lucky to have found the love and support we have for each other in such a difficult time, and that's been obvious to the people who love us most," Hunter said. "We've been so lucky to have family and friends who have supported us every step of the way."
"We are all lucky that Hunter and Hallie found each other as they were putting their lives together again after such sadness," the presidential candidate said at the time. "They have mine and Jill's full and complete support and we are happy for them."
This is Hunter Biden's second marriage, after his 23-year marriage to ex-wife Kathleen ended in 2015. The couple share three kids: Finnegan, 18, Maisy, 16 and Naomi, 23. In divorce papers filed by Kathleen, she alleged that her ex-husband “created financial concerns for the family by spending extravagantly on his own interests” while they were apart. She said he spent the money on “drugs, alcohol, prostitutes, strip clubs, and gifts for women with whom he has sexual relations.”
Neither Joe nor Hunter Biden have commented on the marriage. I'm not really trying to be a pessimist or anything, but I just don't see how a marriage that happened one month after the relationship started, after one member of the couple just got out of a long-term relationship can end well. But hey, that's just me.
