Once again, people on the internet are divided after debate over Heinz's latest product, Mayochup, dominates discussions on social media.
As you can probably guess from the name, Mayochup is a marriage of two staple condiments - ketchup and mayonnaise.
The hybrid was introduced by Heinz earlier this year in other parts of the world, but despite sparking international controversy, the company continued to embrace the mixture and have finally decided to bring it to store shelves in the United States.
Heinz started its campaign to introduce Mayochup to Americans back in April. The condiment giant surveyed Twitter users in order to determine whether or not their new tangy sauce would be welcomed.
Much to some people's chagrin, 55 percent of the 930,691 people who voted were in support, according to the Chicago Tribune.
"After seeing the unprecedented passion surrounding this product, including the nearly one million votes on social media and 500,000 votes in favor of bringing it stateside, launching Mayochup in the U.S. was a no-brainer," explained Nicole Kulwicki, the Director of marketing for Heinz, in the press release. "We're excited to officially welcome Heinz Mayochup sauce to the Heinz family of products, including ketchup. mustard, BBQ sauce, and our most recent addition, Heinz mayonnaise."
Some are asking Heinz to stop "this whole nonesense," but others are calling Mayochup "a dream come true."
