Police officers have a reputation for being deadly serious, but they have a sense of humor just like us, and they're often willing to go the extra mile to brighten someone's day.
That's exactly what this pair of officers from Hurst, Texas did when they pulled over Jared and Nikki Wright last month. Jarred, a US Army veteran who served in Afghanistan, was behind the wheel when a cop car pulled up behind him and flashed their lights.
Wright, who didn't have his ID or driver's license with him, was concerned about why he was pulled over and how much the ticket would cost, but it turned out he had no reason to worry. The cops weren't there to give him a ticket, instead they wanted to break some happy news.
When the police officers approached Wright's window, he was surprised to see that he recognized them. Wright suffers from anxiety and panic attacks, and these officers had assisted him during his last panic attack.
That's why his wife asked them to help her break some good news: the couple are expecting a baby! The officers even had a creative way to reveal to the news.
They told Wright he was being ticketed for driving with a child out of the car seat. When a confused Wright told them he didn't have a child, they asked "are you sure?"
That's when Nikki showed him a positive pregnancy test.
The officers also surprised Jarred with a onesie for his baby, a teddy bear and a note revealing that the child is due on his birthday.
For Jarred, who's been struggling with mental health issues recently, good news like this was very welcome.
"I've been struggling with my psychological disorders; being admitted to an inpatient hospital twice within the last 6 months and numerous Emergency Room visits," he told BuzzFeed.
If you want to support this happy couple, you can donate to a GoFundMe to cover the costs of Jarred's mental health treatment.
