Mark Bayley is a sheep farmer from England, which means he knows pretty much all there is to know about sheep. But when a strange lamb was born on his farm this week, he actually had to search the internet to find out more about the animal's weird condition.
Bayley's 10-year-old daughter Zara was the first one to spot the lamb's extra feature:
"Dad, look," she said, "that lamb has five legs!"
The lamb, who the family has named Forrest, after the Tom Hanks movie Forrest Gump, is healthy otherwise and doesn't seem bothered by his difference.
"We checked him over and he seems to be fine," Bayley said. "He was healthy, drinking from his mother and doing everything he needed to do."
Later, the family had Forrest checked by a vet who confirmed that - aside from the fifth leg - he's perfectly healthy.
While Forrest can't actually use the leg, that's not a bad thing. It's too short to reach the ground, so it doesn't get in the way while he's running around.
There have been a handful of sheep born with extra legs in the past, but it's very rare.
Luckily, Forrest was born into a family who recognize how special he is. The Bayleys were going to sell him for meat, but they've decided to keep him as a family pet instead.
Even the other animals seem jealous of Forrest's unique look.
"There was one lamb that looked at Forest, and then down at itself, as if to wonder why it was missing a leg," Bayley said. "It was very sweet."
