According to a statement made by Elton John's management team, he is suffering from "rare and potentially deadly" bacterial infections contracted in South America last week.

"Thankfully, Elton's medical team identified this quickly and treated it successfully. He is expected to make a full and complete recovery," it added.

Sir Elton John is set to resume his tour on June 3rd, but until then he will be resting at home in the UK, where he was rushed to receive urgent medical attention.

"I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologize for disappointing them. I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well," the star said.
