At the age of 50, Troy Gentry was shockingly killed in a fatal helicopter crash two months ago.
Before passing away, Gentry had promised his 15-year-old daughter, Kaylee, that he would take her to her first award show this year. This year at the CMA Awards, the singer's widow, Angie, fulfilled that promise.
Angie and Troy had been married for nearly 20 years before he was killed in the freak accident. Angie had also survived breast cancer, having undergone chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery before being cleared by doctors in 2015.
That mother-daughter duo walked the red carpet and turned heads.
But that wasn't the most notable part of the night.
The devoted family man died ahead of a performance at The Flying W Airport and Resort in Medford, New Jersey. He left behind his wife Angie, daughter Kaylee and his daughter Taylor from a previous relationship and of course, longtime band mate Eddie Montgomery.
Later in the evening, Dierks Bentley and Rascal Flatts gave an emotional tribute to Troy by performing Montgomery Gentry's hit "My Town." Halfway through the song, Troy's musical partner, Eddie Montgomery, surprised everyone by taking the stage and joining the tribute.
During the performance, you could see Angie and Kaylee tearing up that the beautiful tribute, before the whole crowd rose for a standing ovation.
In February 2018, Montgomery Gentry's new album Here's To You will be released, featuring songs that duo recorded earlier this year.
