Dancing With The Stars has been a huge hit for audiences looking for something light-hearted and fun to watch, but this season has had shocking results and its fair-share of controversy.
The 27th season of the show came to an end on Monday, Nov 19, and the night was exactly like the season: filled with great dancing and an unexpected result.
Four pairs remained to vie for the coveted Mirror Ball trophy:
- Milo Manheim with partner Witney Carson
- Evanna Lynch with partner Keo Motsepe
- Bobby Bones with partner Sharna Burgess
- Alexis Ren with partner Alan Bersten
Manheim, a former Disney Channel star, seemed the favorite to win. He and his pro Carson had put up the best numbers of the remaining pairs. The whole season they were a delight to watch, and had great chemistry. This would be their last dance of the season and they made it count.
Dancing to "Aint No Sunshine" by Bill Withers, they had what was probably the best dance of the night, and one of the best of the whole season. It seemed to cement their chances of winning.
Of course, the season that was coming off a fresh controversy wasn't so easily predicted. Bobby Bones and his partner Burgess, despite her amazing talent, had consistently been the lowest scoring pair of the entire show. Bones has an army of fans, and is a genuinely nice guy who is hard to cheer against, but as a dancer...it's clear he's a radio star.
They overcame all this to become the season champs, much to the shock of most of the audience and Bones himself.
"I'm way down the line of people who deserve a mirrorball," he said after he won. "It's the people that put us here, and Sharna."
This is Burgess's first win after making the final many times before.
The result was so unexpected it's being called the "Mirror Ball Miracle."
As shocking as it is, the real surprise came last week, when front-runners Juan Pablo and Cheryl Burke were voted off after receiving two perfect scores. The result led to judge Len Goodman saying "there's no justice here."
It's been a wild ride, but now that the music has stopped, fans can finally catch their breath.
