David Cassidy Made A Heartbreaking Confession Just Before His Death

New Daily

A recorded tape has made waves when it revealed former teen heartthrob, David Cassidy, hadn't been honest about his health problems just prior to his death.

Despite telling his friends and family he had quit drinking following a rehab stay in 2014, Cassidy hadn't been truthful.

"It's very painful, especially when I spent most of my life being what I would consider a very loving, caring charitable man and someone who has always protected my own image until the time, not wanting to disappoint the millions of fans that I have around the world. And, and it's very humbling and it's also humiliating," Cassidy said about his addiction.

Next week, A&E will be airing the documentary, David Cassidy: the Last Session, which will show the singer's shocking revelation.

"I have a liver disease," Cassidy explained to A&E producer Saralena Weinfield in a recorded conversation. "There is no sign of me having dementia at this stage of my life. It was complete alcohol poisoning."

"The fact is that I lied about my drinking," he added. "I did this to myself to cover up the sadness and the emptiness."

While documentary was originally meant to showcase Cassidy's attempt to return to the limelight via the release of a album (whose tracks were never made public), it also featured his growing health concerns and issues with memory loss.

Sadly, Cassidy passed away last November at the age of 67 from liver failure, which is now attributed to his drinking.

"A part of alcoholism is mendacity," his Partridge costar Danny Bonaduce said. "Whenever you're an addict, you recognize you possibly can't be trustworthy with individuals. You say what you need them to listen to. I can't be mad at David for that, however it's nonetheless a tragedy."

"I think it will strike a chord with people," producer John Marks told PEOPLE. "He wanted to share this very private part of his life, and to be honest once and for all. And I think he succeeded in doing that."

Although this may seem like stunning news, this isn't the first time Cassidy has made headlines from beyond the grave.

Cassidy's Will

When Cassidy passed away on November 21, both of his children were at his side, including his formerly estranged daughter, Katie.

While Cassidy was Katie's biological father, he hand no hand in raising her, with the role of the Gossip Girl's father figure going to her stepdad.

"Because I didn't raise her, I didn't have to parent her," Cassidy said.

"I wasn't her father. I was her biological father but I didn't raise her," he also admitted. "She has a completely different life."

But, their strained relationship eventually improved, and they formed a healthy rapport during the last years of his life.

"To be able to go to someone I'm genetically linked to, tell them anything and know that they're not going to judge me "” it's unbelievable," Katie said. "It's nice when your dad can be your friend."

Unfortunately, Cassidy passed away on November 21, to the devastation of his family.

"Words cant express the solace our family's received from all the love & support during this trying time," Katie wrote on Twitter.

"My father's last words were 'So much wasted time'. This will be a daily reminder for me to share my gratitude with those I love as to never waste another minute....thank you," she added.

However, after Cassidy's passing, it would be quickly revealed he left his only daughter out of his will.

("A)ny references to his "˜child or children' are only to Beau and not to Katie ... It is my specific intent not to provide any benefits hereunder to Katherine Evelyn Cassidy and/or any descendant of Katherine Evelyn Cassidy," his will stated.

Although Katie never discussed the contents of her father's will, she has spoken about her rise to fame - without his help.

Katie Speaks Out

While the Arrow actress had the emotional support of her mother and stepfather when she decided to move to Tinseltown, she was essentially on her own when it came to paying the bills.

"I was so nervous when I moved out at 18," Katie said. "I had a couple thousand dollars to my name. I remember it was all trial and error for me. I had to figure it all out on my own."

"I wished I did had someone to talk to who could have helped me feel better about my situation. And knowing I wasn't the only one out there. I remember I had to go and ask my mom for groceries sometimes because I wasn't the best person with budgeting. I had to learn the hard way, but you live and learn. It builds character and strength," she continued.

Her famous father also didn't help jump-start Katie's career, and she was forced to make connections on her own.

"David Cassidy is my father, yes... But for me, it was always really important with acting to stay in class, study it and earn it on my own. My dad didn't help me," Katie noted.

"I think having the last name, in my opinion, put a lot more pressure on me throughout the process of auditioning because you're held under a microscope. People have certain expectations. But at the end of the day, talent is talent. You have to be able to deliver," she continued.

However, that didn't mean he didn't give her a valuable piece of advice.

According to PEOPLE, Cassidy told his daughter: "Do not work for money. Do not work for fame. Work for the work. And if you get a great role and they offer you nothing, take it."

Despite their rocky relationship, we hope the father-daughter duo had eventually found their peace.
