Getting ready for a week-long spring break, the Richter family piled into their minivan ready to hit the open road.

Before starting the car, dad held up his phone and asked his family to pause for a family photo.

Instead of taking a photo like he promised, he was actually recording a video. His teenage daughter points out his blunder, and he pretended to act surprised.

Take two of the family photo- this time a dark-hooded man emerges from the back of the van.

"Wait, Rowan, a little to the right," ordered Dad, drawing attention to the surprise guest in the backseat.

U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Rowan Richter told his family that he couldn't make it home for spring break, setting up for the perfect surprise.

The surprises didn't end there, Richter the trickster paid his grandmother a visit during his homecoming.

Her reaction was also priceless!
