Although most flights in the U.S. offer complimentary refreshments and a snack on some trips, you'd have to shell out some cash if you want something more filling. But, here's some good news: you won't have to keep doing that much longer because select airlines are changing their policies and bringing back some great amenities.
Back in 2016, Delta Airlines started experimenting with free in-flight meals and by February 2017, they announced that they will be officially bringing back free meals to economy on select domestic long-haul flights.
The free meal service started on March 1st and is currently available on routes between New York and Los Angeles as well as between New York and San Francisco.
The airline also confirmed that they're expecting to expand this in-flight amenity to about a dozen routes by next month.
Following in their footsteps is American Airlines, who also confirmed on Tuesday that they will be offering free meals on two of its domestic flights between New York and California.
The free meal program will kick off on May 1 on the Airbus A321Ts and will feature a continental breakfast or a boxed wrap, chips and dessert meal and a fruit and cheese plate. They'll also cater to vegetarians with a meat-free option.
This is the first time since 2010 that U.S. continental airlines are offering free meals aboard these routes.
