Hotdog's are one of those things that we all know probably aren't the best food for you, but boy do they have a great taste! They can be simply dressed with ketchup and mustard, New York style, chili dogs, so many different....but each one delicious!
Now, let me introduce to you another version to add to the list...Cowboy Hotdog's! The name pretty much says it all....caramelized onions, crumbled bacon, country baked beans, and last but not least....cheese!
I have to admit that sticking with a healthy diet isn't always easy, and sometimes you just have to throw the towel in and indulge!
That's exactly what I did this past weekend, and not only did I make these for just me, but I made my entire family indulge in these delicious dogs! My kids don't like onions so for theirs I removed the caramelized onions but they still tasted amazing!
1. In a large skillet over medium heat add in butter, olive oil, and sliced onions. Allow the onions to become caramelized and then remove from heat and set aside.
2. Wipe out the skillet and then return your burner. Over medium heat add in your baked beans, honey, barbecue sauce, and crumbled bacon. All the mixture to simmer until it is heated throughout.
3. Preheat your grill, and add on the hot dogs rotating them to ensure they are properly heated throughout, and have visible grill marks.
4. Remove the hot dogs and add on the buns to allow them to get slightly toasted.
5. Time to assemble! Place one of the hot dogs in the bun and then add a spoonful of the bean mixture, caramelized onions, and cheese!
6. Serve while hot and the cheese is all melted.
