Celine Dion just can't seem to catch a break lately.
The last year-and-a-half have been especially hard for the vocal powerhouse. She lost both her husband and brother to cancer in 2016, and then on top of it all, she has been struggling with a few health problems.
Dion has been dealing with a health crisis for a while now, although she never really explicitly revealed what she was diagnosed with, until recently.
In the 2010 documentary about her Taking Chances tour, Celine: Through the Eyes of the World, she got a little more personal with fans by revealing that the issue with her throat, which forced her to cancel a few shows back in 2008, was a lot more serious than she was letting on.
Cameras followed her as she visited Dr. Gwen Korovin, the "throat specialist to the stars," in an attempt to get to the bottom of the problem.
Dion did not really publicly discuss her throat problem for a while, so fans assumed she was on the mend. It wasn't until a few years later, in 2014, that the singer's reps revealed that she would taking time off from her Las Vegas residency and Asia tour to focus on her family as well as her illness.
"Celine has also been fighting an illness that has caused inflammation in her throat muscles, and has not been able to perform any of her scheduled shows in Las Vegas since her last show on July 29. She has still not recovered from this condition," read the statement.
Unfortunately, that wouldn't be the last time problems with her health would force her to take a break from performing.
Earlier this year, the "My Heart Will Go On" singer was forced to cancel more shows in order to recover from a "lingering cold."
While it's possible that Dion was indeed fighting a cold, it turns out that there is more to her condition that was not made public, until now.
In January, reports stated that Dion was battling a "nasty virus" and as per her doctor's instructions, she had to rest her voice until her symptoms, which included congestion and irritation of the vocal chords, clear up.
She was expected to resume her concerts on March 27, but it seems like her "feeling under the weather" earlier this year may be related to her current issue, which now requires surgery.
On March 21, Dion announced that she has made the decision to cancel her upcoming shows from March 27 through April 18 in order to fix an ear problem that's been causing her to experience hearing irregularities.
Dion's condition has affected her Patulous Eustachian tube for the last "12-18 months" and it has made it extremely hard for her to hear properly and sing.
"My luck hasn't been very good lately," the 49-year-old entertainer wrote on social media. "I've been so looking forward to doing my shows again and this happens. I just can't believe it! I apologize to everyone who planned to travel to Las Vegas to see my show. I know how disappointing this is, and I'm so sorry."
According to the statement released on Dion's official Facebook page, the iconic singer has been managing the ear problem with ear drops, but it's reached a point where that is no longer working. She will require a "minimally invasive surgical procedure to correct the problem."
The Canadian-born pop star is now expected to return to the stage on May 22, but ticketholders for the string of shows that have been cancelled will receive refunds.
We're wishing Dion all the best and a speedy recovery!
