Someone's sex life is no one's business but their own. No one owes anybody anything when it comes to details, but unfortunately for celebrities, they're not always awarded that luxury. It seems like every report, clip, or interview involving someone famous always comes back to who they're sleeping with.
Of course, everyone is entitled to do whatever they want with their body, and if you want to share that with the world, more power to you. But it makes you wonder...if these celebrities are the people our kids are looking up to, are there any role models for those who are choosing to wait until marriage before sleeping with someone?
These celebrities have all been vocal about their decision to stay celibate before marriage. For some of them, it was a choice made after already losing their virginity and wanting to save themselves before they did it again. For others, it's been a lifelong devotion.
1. Ciara & Russell Wilson
Ciara, who had a child from a previous relationship, didn't want to rush things with Wilson, and believed that developing a friendship was more important than anything else.
"I really believe that when you focus on a friendship, you have the opportunity to build a strong foundation for a relationship "” and once you know you're really great friends and you're what we call "˜equally yoked,' where you share the same values or the same outlook on life, it kind of sets the tone," Ciara told Cosmopolitan South Africa. "Knowing that you'll always have the friendship and that you can always go back to it is very important, and very powerful."
She and Wilson did wait until their wedding night, and three months later announced they were expecting their first child together.
2. Justin Bieber & Hailey Baldwin
Bieber and Baldwin had dated previously, and from the sounds of it they had definitely slept together. Bieber admitted that he fell deep into a hole of using sex as a distraction, and that when he began dating Baldwin again, he wanted to rededicate himself to God.
"[God] doesn't ask us not to have sex for him because he wants rules and stuff," said the singer. "He's like, "˜I'm trying to protect you from hurt and pain.' I think sex can cause a lot of pain. Sometimes people have sex because they don't feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth. Women do that, and guys do that."
"I wanted to rededicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul," Bieber added. "And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result. There are perks. You get rewarded for good behavior."
3. Adriana Lima
The runway model is definitely stunning, but she's not using her looks to get people in to bed with her.
"Sex is for after marriage," she told GQ in 2006. "[My boyfriends] have to respect that this is my choice. If there's no respect, that means they don't want me."
Lima married NBA star Marko Jarić in 2009, but they have since divorced.
4. Andy Grammer
Grammer got married in 2012, and spoke openly about how he waited until he was marred to have sex, citing that it can be destructive.
"I actually waited until I was married to have sex," the "Honey I'm Good" singer revealed on The Talk in 2016. "That was not without some porn, unfortunately. I do think that, as a culture, we don't understand the effects of that. I feel for men right now because it's never been this easy to do something so destructive to yourself. It makes my heart sad that we don't quite understand how destructive that is, on a daily basis, that we can be doing to ourselves."
5. Jessica Simpson
Jessica Simpson was very adamant about remaining a virgin until her wedding to Nick Lachey in 2002.
"My virginity is something I stand strong in," she said at the time.
Lachey also spoke on the matter, saying "It's not always easy. But I do respect it. Virginity can be cool and sexy."
6. Jordin Sparks
The American Idol alum spoke on a few occasions about keeping her virginity until marriage.
"I don't want to give away bits of my soul to lots of different guys"”I want to give all of myself to the right man on the right night," she said in an interview. "And the right night is my wedding."
She also made waves at the MTV Movie Awards when she stood up for the Jonas Brothers who, at the time, were wearing promise rings and were mocked by host Russel Brand.
"It's not bad to wear a promise ring," she said from the stage. "Not everybody "” guy or girl "” wants to be a slut."
7. Miranda Kerr
Kerr, who shares a son with her ex Orlando Bloom, was asked about whether she was waiting until she was married to Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel before having sex again.
"Not until after we get married," she told The London Times. "[Spiegel] is very traditional. We can't...I mean we're just...waiting."
The couple was married in May of 2017.
8. Kevin Jonas
The eldest Jonas brother courted his wife, Danielle Deleasa, for two years before they got married in 2009. The couple waited until they were married to have sex, but Jonas said it wasn't that easy.
"I could've gotten married the day after we got engaged," he admitted. "We'd have gone crazy waiting any longer."
9. Tim Tebow
Tebow has always been open about his devout Christian faith, and part of that includes saving himself until marriage.
"It's about finding a girl who likes me for me, and not because of what I do, or who I am, or the name," he told Vogue. "I can't wait, but I think it's something that I'll have to trust God for. He'll bring someone along at the right time. But that doesn't mean that I don't want it, though!"
There have been rumors that Tebow was dating Jana Duggar, but those were never confirmed.
10. Carrie Undewood
It's unclear whether or not Underwood actually waited until she was married to her hubby Mike Fisher before having sex, but she had previously stated she would be waiting. In 2007, she told Slate magazine she wanted to save herself, and in 2010 she married her now-husband. Fisher has also been open about how faith plays a large role in their relationship.
"Spiritually we're able to be on the same page and understood each other ... and now it's a big part of our marriage," he said.
11. Sarah Drew
Sometimes life imitates art, and sometimes it's the other way around. Drew's character of April Kepner was against pre-marital sex, and it's something that Drew had lived in real life.
"For April, the first thing that was revealed was she was a virgin," explained Drew in an interview. "I waited until I was married to have sex so I understood April's motivations. The writers thought it would be a really cool and interesting story to tell that isn't seen too often."
12. Julianne Hough
Hough is another celebrity that has been vocal about waiting until marriage to have sex, and urged others to look at it in the long run.
"I think [the choice] to have sex before marriage is an individual one, but if you're just with one person, it's only for one good reason, and [waiting to have sex] will strengthen that relationship. I'm not trying to preach consequences here, but I think when you say no, down the line it will be a better decision."
13. Lolo Jones
Jones, a United States track and field star, has had guys tell her she'll get further in her career if she has sex before marriage, but she's not budging on her stance.
"It's the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. Harder than training for the Olympics," she admitted in a TV interview. "I've been tempted. I've had guys tell me..."˜Hey, you know, if you have sex, it'll help you run faster.'"
14. Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon
Both Cannon and Carey agreed that waiting to have sex until after they were married was the best thing for them to do.
"We both have similar beliefs, and I just thought that it would be so much more special if we waited until after we were married," Carey told London's Daily Mirror. "And it was, and it still is."
15. Tina Fey
Tina Fey didn't actually wait until marriage to have sex, but when she did lose her virginity, it was to the guy she ended up marrying. Fey was 24 when she met her husband, and although she waited until then to have sex, it doesn't sound like it was entirely by choice.
"[I] couldn't give it away," she joked. "That's just good, Christian values, or, being homely."
16. Lisa Kudrow
The Friends star got married in 1995, and until then she waited to have sex. Her explanation was somewhat empowering.
"I don't know if you'd characterize me as uptight, but I understood what it is to be so afraid of sex"”of your sexuality," she explained. "For me it was just, 'No, I'm saving myself because I have to make myself worthy of the kind of man I have in mind.'"
Although it seems like everywhere you turn the media is reporting on who's sleeping with who, there are celebrities who have the same values as a lot of people who grew up with Christian values, and that is refreshing to see.
