Have you ever been walking down the street and seen someone famous? It's a rare occurrence but it does happen! Seeing your favorite celebrity in a casual setting can be both cool and terrifying. You want to ask them for an autograph or a picture, but you don't want to disrupt their day.
Most celebrities don't mind taking a moment out of their day to say hello, but there are others who will flat out refuse to take a selfie with you.
1. Miley Cyrus
The coach on The Voice says it's her awkwardness that stops her from taking pictures.
"I get embarrassed to take pictures. That's actually the truth. I'm so embarrassed, because people are taking pictures of me, and I just don't know how to "” I don't know how to smile and just be awkward, so I stick my tongue out, because I don't know what else to do," she explained.
2. Amy Poehler
Poehler finds selfies to be extremely narcisisstic, and doesn't even like when her friends take her picture.
"The idea of, "˜This is my face and everyone needs to see it all the time,' is so far from the privacy that people used to seek," she said. "If I'm hanging out with a friend, and they take a picture of me, it's like, "˜Ugh.' I mean, I hate looking at pictures of myself. It immediately takes me out of the experience."
3. Justin Bieber
The pop megastar says he feels like a prop when fans want to take pictures with him, because they just want proof instead of a connection.
"If you happen to see me out somewhere, know that I'm not gonna take a picture. I'm done taking pictures," he told fans. "It has gotten to the point that people won't even say hi to me or recognize me as a human. I feel like a zoo animal, and I wanna be able to keep my sanity. I realize people will be disappointed, but I don't owe anybody a picture. And people who say, "˜But I bought your album,' know that you got my album and you got what you paid for "” AN ALBUM! It doesn't say in fine print whenever you see me you also get a photo."
4. Emma Watson
The Beauty and the Beast and Harry Potter star says for her, not taking pictures with fans is a safety precaution.
"For me, it's the difference between being able to have a life and not. If someone takes a photograph of me and posts it, within two seconds they've created a marker of exactly where I am within 10 meters. [The public] can see what I'm wearing and who I'm with. I just can't give that tracking data. I'll say, "˜I will sit here and answer every single Harry Potter fandom question you have but I just can't do a picture.'"
5. Kirstie Alley
After slimming down with the help of Jenny Craig, Alley was out when a fan asked for a photo with her. She denied the request, but offered an alternative.
"I hate selfies, I'm so sorry!" she said. "You can take a photo of me, but I don't want...I hate selfies."
6. Maisie Williams
Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams says for her, selfies with fans depend on the day.
"I still don't feel like I owe anyone anything," she said. "If I don't want a picture one day, I don't have a problem saying no. I know some people get really weird about that, like, "˜You're so mean.' But if I was really in love with someone I wouldn't just want a picture. I would want to hang out with them."
7. Prince Harry
Though it's technically royal protocol to not take selfies with fans, Harry also just hates them in general.
"Seriously, you need to get out of it," he told a large group of teenagers waiting to meet him. "I know you're young but selfies are bad. I hate selfies."
8. Amy Schumer
Schumer didn't always refuse pictures with fans, but one creep ruined it for everyone else. She posted about the interaction on Instagram.
"This guy in front of his family just ran up next to me scared the s"“t out of me. Put a camera in my face. I asked him to stop and he said, "˜no it's America and we paid for you,' this was in front of his daughter. I was saying stop and no. Great message to your kid. Yes legally you are allowed to take a picture of me. But I was asking you to stop and saying no. I will not take pictures with people anymore and it's because of this dude in Greenville."
9. Chris Pratt
Pratt is known as one of the most down-to-earth celebrities in Hollywood, but he acknowledges that fame means you need to be smart about your down time.
"I've always been a pretty deferential, go-with-the-flow guy. But now I have to be economical with my time," Pratt explained. "If I go out and want to do normal things, I have to be comfortable disappointing people. So I just don't take pictures with people. Because that's not about enjoying the moment; it's about stealing the moment to brag about later."
10. Emily Blunt
Blunt doesn't like being approached in public, especially when she's with her daughters.
"Frances McDormand told us"”she just makes my teeth ache I love her so much"”when someone asks her for a picture, she says, "˜You know what? I've actually retired from that. But I would like to shake your hand and meet you,'" Blunt revealed. "Social media has changed the landscape so an encounter with you is valued more as a social-media currency than a genuine interaction."
11. Jennifer Lawrence
The Oscar-winning actress says she's still trying to find a balance between her personal and professional life.
"I have just started becoming really rude and drawn into myself," the young actress revealed. "I think that people [strangers] think that we already are friends because I am famous and they feel like they already know me "” but I don't know them. I have to protect my bubble, like, "˜I have a weird job "” don't let this be a reality.'"
