Near-death experiences are something that will shake you to your core. It can make you reevaluate your entire life, changing several things about your hobbies, your interests, and what you find important.
Celebrities go through these near-death experiences just like the rest of us, except when they do we hear about it in the news. These seven celebs had a harrowing experience that would be enough to freak out even the bravest person, but they lived to tell the tale.
1. Sharon Stone
In 2001, Stone suffered a brain aneurysm. It could have killed her if she hadn't made it to the hospital in time. "I called my mom and I said, "˜Mom, I'm calling you from the emergency room...I'm having a brain hemorrhage'...I had to learn to walk, hear, write, talk, remember and everything all over again. I thought that I was dying for a long time, even after I came home." It took two years for her to recover from the incident.
2. George Clooney
Clooney sustained a head and spinal injury while filming Syriana in 2005. He was hit in the head with a chair during a torture scene, but something went wrong.
He admitted that while sitting in the hospital he contemplated suicide. "I was at a point where I thought, "˜I can't exist like this. I can't actually live. I was lying in a hospital bed with an IV in my arm, unable to move, having these headaches where it feels like you're having a stroke, and for a short three-week period, I started to think, "˜I may have to do something drastic about this.' You start to think in terms of, you don't want to leave a mess, so go in the garage, go in the car, start the engine. It seems like the nicest way to do it, but I never thought I'd get there. See, I was in a place where I was trying to figure out how to survive."
3. Orlando Bloom
In 1998, 21-year-old Bloom fell from a three story building and ended up breaking his back. He required screws and plates installed around his spine and was told he would never walk again. Obviously he did, but it was a scary experience, one that he is reminded of every time he sees the scar. "It hasn't prevented me from doing anything. But it's a constant reminder."
4. Jason Statham
While filming Expendables 3, Statham was driving a truck when the brakes broke and he was sent flying into the ocean. He managed to pull himself out but according to Sylvester Stallone it was a close call. "He faced death. He was test-driving a three-ton truck and the brakes ran out. It went down 60ft into the Black Sea and became impaled...If anyone else had been in that truck we would have been dead because we were all wearing heavy boots and gun belts. We would have drowned. But because Jason is an Olympic-quality diver he got out of it."
Those aren't the only celebrities who have gone through traumatic events...
5. Zac Efron
While filming The Greatest Showman, Zac Efron was biking around London with his costar Hugh Jackman when he learned that it's sometimes not wise to try and keep up with Wolverine. "I cycled with him in London, but I'm not one to ride a bike early in the morning in traffic so it turned out to be quite dangerous," Efron said. "I followed Hugh around a few cars and suddenly there was a double-decker bus right in front of me. I slammed on the brakes, went under the front tire and narrowly missed death."
6. Tracy Morgan
Morgan was in a car accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury. He spent months in the hospital recovering, but he said that it changed him as a person. "The way I am with people, something's just different. I find myself saying 'I love you' 200 times a day to strangers. I don't care "“ I don't gotta know you to love you, I love you!"
7. Gerard Butler
Butler was filming the movie Chasing Mavericks which required him to surf. However one day he was pulled underwater and dragged across the rocks. "This was maybe one of the few times that the reports were not exaggerated. It was a pretty close call. ... [The waves] just took me and I couldn't get up. It was pretty hairy."
