Since receiving the baton from Faith Hill in 2014, country music superstar Carrie Underwood has sung the theme song for the NFL Sunday Night Football intro.
The multiple Grammy Award winner sang the catchy fan favorite "Oh, Sunday Night" for years, but this past September, she debuted a new song titled "Game On."
NBC Sports played the new tune and its accompanying video right before the first game of the season between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers kicked off.
Instead of belting out the familiar "Ohhh Sunday night!," which football fans have grown to love over the last four years, Underwood's new lyrics threw people off, and many were not too pleased with the change.
Viewers took to social media to voice their disappointment over the song.
Despite the initial mixed reactions, the song has grown on some fans, but there are a few who still have a strong dislike for it.
This week, Underwood was forced to stand up for herself and the song after a fan expressed their dislike for the game night tune.
"I love that NBC has been reading everyone's Collinsworth slide tweets because it means they've also been reading all the tweets about how much we hate the new Carrie Underwood song," the fan tweeted, referring to the fact that the network ignored the feedback from fans after the song debuted.
The "Cry Pretty" singer came across the tweet and wasted no time in responding.
"Hey, I know my music isn't for everyone, but I love what I do and I love being a part of @SNFonNBC!" Underwood wrote. "I am one lucky lady! I also love women who build other women up...just saying."
She followed-up the tweet with a positive message in which she encouraged her fans to be nicer to one another.
"Today, let's be positive. Let's be NICE to each other. Let's do something nice FOR someone else. Smile at a stranger. It's the start of a new week!" the pregnant singer tweeted. "Today is precious! Don't waste it! Sending love and cheer to you all!" she wrote, adding a reference to her hit single, #LoveWins."
The fan who triggered the clap back posted a comment under Underwood's reply and tried to clarify her original tweet, writing, "Omg wait no I love you I just miss the old song!"
After some backlash from Underwood supporters, the fan issued an apology, further explaining what she really meant.
"Sorry that I dissed 'Game On' in my tweet ... I didn't mean to upset Carrie or her fans, and I'm all about supporting women too. I just miss 'Waiting all day for Sunday Night,'" she said, referring to Hill and Pink's SNF song.
While everyone should be free to voice their opinion on the internet, Underwood's message is a reminder to us all to think twice before we say something that might hurt another person.
