While most people start to plan their retirement when they hit their 50s, Brigitte Nielsen is back to raising a baby.

At 55 years old, the Danish actress now has a newborn on her hands after she gave birth to her daughter, Frida, on June 22.

"We are overjoyed to welcome our beautiful daughter into our lives," the new mom told PEOPLE at the time. "It's been a long road, and so worth it. We've never been more in love."

While this is Nielsen's fifth child - she's also the mother to Raoul Meyer Jr., 23, Douglas Meyer, 25, Killian Gastineau, 28, and Julian Winding, 34 - this is her first girl, and she's thrilled to finally hold her "little princess" in her arms.

"She's healthy, and she's beautiful," she said. "I've gotten everything that I wished for."

Nielsen admitted that while her early Hollywood career prevented her from being as hands on with her first child, she'll be more present with Frida.

"I'm more capable, less frustrated and not afraid. I know exactly what I want to do with her and where I'm at in life," she said.

The Rocky IV actress said she wasn't planning on expanding her family, but when she met Italian model Mattia Dessi, 39, the pair quickly fell in love and started to plan their future together.

While Nielson stared freezing her eggs and began IVF treatments, which weren't initially a success.

"There was a lot of disappointment," Nielsen explained. "It's that phone call going, "˜It's negative.' It's the waiting. At times you can feel lonely, because a lot of women don't talk to each other about it."

"You want to be in good hands," the mother-of-five continued. "You don't want to just go with some doctor. Be careful with who you choose and [make sure you have] a good relationship there, someone you can talk to. Do you feel protected? ... Study what you're doing with your own body. I read so much. I could probably work in an IVF clinic right now."

Nielsen added that since most people were doubtful of her ability to give birth to another child at her age, it had been an "isolating journey." However, their opinions didn't stop her from making her own decisions about her life.

"I think at times you can feel lonely, because a lot of women don't talk to each other about it. We should hold hands because there's nothing wrong with wanting to have a baby whether you're 20, you're 30, you're 40 or, in my case, 50," she shared.

"Some women think, "˜Oh my God, I'm too old.' Well, yeah, I can understand people saying, "˜How dare she?'" Nielsen continued. "But how many men have their first kids in their 60s and 70s and they never doubt it?"

"Do I understand that [people] are a bit skeptical? Yes, I understand. I also totally respect the fact that not everybody likes it and agrees with it, but it is my life," she concluded.

But after 10 years of trying to conceive, Nielsen and Dessi were finally able to welcome Frida into the world, and their joy is obvious.
