Every girl grew up dreaming about her wedding day. So when the occasion finally arrived, every detail from the perfect white dress, to the cake and flowers, holds a special meaning. So when it came to choosing her "something old, something borrowed and something blue," bride Alison Ferrell wanted to go the extra mile.
Instead of opting for the traditional family heirloom, passed down jewelry, or an accessory, Ali chose something unexpected for her something blue - her 92-year-old uncle.
"'When we first got engaged, I knew that I wanted to include Uncle Bill in a special way," Ali told KFVS 12.
The Cape Girardeau, MO newlywed wanted a "something" blue that she would would never forget and her uncle, a retired World War II United States Marine Corps was perfect for the role.
Ali's veteran uncle had been very sick with pneumonia and in the days leading up to the wedding he was in rehabilitation. Closer to the big day, one of the nurses asked him what his goal was, he answered: "To be her "Something Blue" on her wedding day."
Bill began to show major improvement and on May 13, 2017, Ali made her uncle's wish come true. He was dressed to the nines in his uniform and attended the celebration.
"There wasn't a dry eye in the church when he was escorted down the aisle in his dress blues," Ali wrote in a Facebook post shared by Love What Matters. "It was such an honor to have him serve as my "Something Blue" on my wedding day and a memory that will last a lifetime."
