Shayne the baby koala was discovered by observant rescuers after they responded to a call about an injured animal.
The baby koala had been riding on his mother's back when the two were hit by a car. When rescuers found them, little Shayne had crawled 20 meters away from his mother who tragically died.
Little Shayne now lives at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital where he is learning climbing and social skills from other koalas. Vets believe that his mother absorbed most of the impact, little Shayne was lucky enough to escape unscathed!
Between August and February, the animal hospital takes in between 70-80 koalas each month due to migration patterns that cross busy streets. Learn more about the good work they do here.
