In this day and age, most of our favorite celebrities have social media pages where they satisfy our curiosity by regularly sharing updates about their fascinating lives.

Some of them, like Beyonce, simply share photos on platforms like Instagram, but others like Chrissy Teigen, Cher, and J.K. Rowling love to interact with fans, whether it's to dish out advice, give a sassy response, or crack a joke.

Still, there are stars like Ashton Kutcher who believe that connecting through social media is just not enough and are seeking something a bit more personal.

The actor took his fans by surprise when he shared his phone number on Twitter, telling them "I miss having a real connection [with[ real people. My Community."

"From now on you can just text me. I won't be able to respond to everyone but at least we can be real [with] each other & I can share the unedited latest & greatest in my world. Yes this is my #."

Along with the now-deleted message, he included a GIF of himself saying, "You are the fabric of who we are, and we love you!"

Of course, Twitter went into a frenzy as soon as The Ranch star posted his number, with many people wondering if they're being punk'd by Kutcher, who is known for being a prankster.

It's unclear if the Dude, Where's My Car? actor deleted the number because he received too many messages, or if there was a glitch.

According to People, those who texted the number received an automatic reply that read: "Hey it's Ashton. This is an auto text to let you know I got your message."

"Make sure you click the link and [add] my phone so I can respond to you," he added.

Turns out, Kutcher's efforts to reach out to the public may have something to do with his new start-up Community.com, which left some people disappointed.

Still, before heading out for a courtside date night with wife Mila Kunis, Kutcher sent out another tweet reassuring fans that he will repost his number soon, adding that "SMS is a fragile beast."

Would you text Ashton Kutcher if you had his number?
