Last week, Teen Mom star Amber Portwood was arrested for domestic battery after her boyfriend, Andrew Glennon, called 911 during an alleged attack from Portwood. The couple's son, James, was present during the time of the attack.
“Just after 3:00 a.m., on 7.5.2019, officers were called to [address] reference a disturbance. Officers spoke to the male victim who stated his live-in-girlfriend and he were having a disagreement,” an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department statement read. “During which time the female, later identified as Amber Portwood assaulted him, while he was holding their one-year-old child.”
Glennon apparently texted police for help, but it wasn't clear on the details as to what happened.
“I received a text message from somebody saying that their life and their son’s life is in danger," a dispatch recording from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.
Portwood was released from jail on a $2,000 cash bond, and was charged with two felonies and one misdemeanor. The reality star has a history with violence, as well as a diagnosis of bipolar and borderline personality disorder, and to hear that she was arrested once again was sad. Portwood previously spent 17 months in prison on drug charges, but it had seemed like she turned her life around.
More Details Emerge
Now that a few days have gone by, more details are starting to come to light about what happened on the day of Portwood's arrest. According to Marion Superior Court documents obtained by Radar Online, Portwood had a weapon on her at the time of the attack.
Her first charge is for domestic battery for “knowingly touching Andrew Glennon, a family or household member in a rude, insolent or angry manner.”
Her second charge is criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, after “[striking] the machete at and into a door, while Andrew Glennon was standing directly on the other side of the door, that created a substantial risk of bodily injury to Andrew Glennon." This charge is a felony.
Portwood's third charge, also a felony, is because she “knowingly touched Andrew Glennon, a family or household member, in a rude, insolent, or angry manner and Amber L Portwood committed said offense in the presence of a child less than 16 years of age, knowing that the child was present and might be able to see or hear the offense."
According to Glennon, Portwood's outburst was because he "dropped the ball" on plans so see the fireworks on the 4th of July.
"Mr. Glennon stated when he got inside the home, Ms. Portwood grabbed a shoe off the shoe rack and hit him with it. Mr. Glennon stated he was holding [the baby] and he turned to the side to avoid [the baby] getting hit with the shoe,” an affidavit obtained by The Ashley read. “Mr. Glennon stated he then left [the house] again with [the baby]."
Apparently, the Teen Mom star was also suicidal and threatening to kill herself.
"Mr. Glennon stated Ms. Portwood went to her drawer and took a handful of Klonopin and tossed it back like it was nothing," the affidavit continued.
Because of these charges and Portwood's mental state, Glennon has filed for full custody of their son. However, that doesn't mean the couple is calling it quits.
“Andrew is doing it as a protective measure to ensure whatever happens with upcoming court rulings, their son will have the best outcome regardless,” a source explained. “Amber and Andrew still really care about each other and this is not the end of their relationship.”
Portwood is also mom to 10-year-old daughter Leah, whom she shares with ex-fiancé Gary Shirley. Shirley sent his wishes to Portwood and Glennon on Twitter after the news of Amber's arrest broke.
"My prayers are with @AmberLPortwood, Andrew, & most importantly baby James, idk any of the particulars, however I’m thinking of them," Shirley wrote on Twitter. "And for all the questions and concerns Leah was/is currently camping with her best friend."
