When news broke out that the Alaskan Bush People star Ami Brown was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer, no one was more distraught than her family.
Although the family temporarily relocated to southern California, the Browns were rightfully frightened over the situation.
"Once we got the call that it was cancer, part of me just, like, wanted to run away," Ami's son Bam Brown said at the time. "But stronger than that was the emotion to get here and to see mom and do whatever I could to be moral support to everyone."
"To see mom not wanting to get out of bed because it might hurt to walk around the room, that was really difficult," he continued. "And then when I gave mom a hug, I felt how thin she was. So yeah, that hit me pretty hard. As prepared as I was to walk into the room and go into that, it's different when you're there."
Thankfully, it was announced earlier this year that the mother-of-seven was cancer-free, despite a 3% survival rate for her particular strain.
"Her lungs are clear," her husband Billy Brown said during the Alaskan Bush People Christmas special. "She's still weak and she has a cough and all that, but if you look inside her eyes that's the best part because Ami's back. She's inside there, and she wasn't for a while."
"It's very scary but I never gave up hope. You have to stay positive and keep God with you because he really does perform miracles," the matriarch added.
However, Ami also revealed that despite her good news, she'll have to be screened every three months for the rest of her life in case the cancer ever returns.
"I have to go in every three months now for the rest of my life and be scanned to see if it's back or not," she said. "It's going to be a part of my life forever. But I want to encourage people to enjoy every moment and walk every moment with God because he knows what it's about. Never give up faith."
But before Ami was declared cancer-free, one of her sons was forced to leave the bush due to the risk for worsening his mother's condition.
Gabriel Brown, 28, is said to have suffered from a "severe health issues" last year and believed it was in everyone's best interests to voluntarily go into isolation.
"Last year was really tough on Gabe and when he got sick earlier this year, he had to live separately from the family so Ami didn't catch anything," a source close to the family told Radar.
"That was isolating for him because him and Ami are so used to being together," they continued.
"He's back now with the family and has been really active in building their new land. You will see a lot of the Gabe everyone knows and loves in this upcoming season," the insider said.
