8-Year-Old's Joy Ride To McDonald's Got Him In Trouble With The Cops

What would you do for a cheeseburger? Drive to the nearest McDonald's and buy one seems like the obvious choice, but what would you do if you were only eight years old?

This was the problem that a young boy in East Paletine, Ohio had one evening but he found a way to satisfy his craving.

Local police officer, Jacob Koehler, said that the young boy managed to teach himself how to drive by watching YouTube videos and then took his dad's car keys while he took a nap. The boy loaded up his four-year-old sister into the car and grabbed some money from his piggy bank before pulling out into traffic for his trek to the local McDonald's.

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/afp_n49bg_e8a503d689253ade489752f1cdd63462-nbcnews-fp-1200-800.jpg" srcset="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/afp_n49bg_e8a503d689253ade489752f1cdd63462-nbcnews-fp-1200-800_GH_content_550px.jpg 550w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/afp_n49bg_e8a503d689253ade489752f1cdd63462-nbcnews-fp-1200-800_GH_content_650px.jpg 650w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/afp_n49bg_e8a503d689253ade489752f1cdd63462-nbcnews-fp-1200-800_GH_content_750px.jpg 750w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/afp_n49bg_e8a503d689253ade489752f1cdd63462-nbcnews-fp-1200-800_GH_content_850px.jpg 850w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/afp_n49bg_e8a503d689253ade489752f1cdd63462-nbcnews-fp-1200-800_GH_content_950px.jpg 950w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/afp_n49bg_e8a503d689253ade489752f1cdd63462-nbcnews-fp-1200-800_GH_content_1050px.jpg 1050w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/afp_n49bg_e8a503d689253ade489752f1cdd63462-nbcnews-fp-1200-800_GH_content_1150px.jpg 1150w" sizes="89vw" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>

How he reached the gas pedal I'll never understand! He even managed to navigate the drive through and when he arrived at the window the staff thought it was a prank. "The workers thought that the parents were in the back, which they obviously weren't," officer Koehler said.

The police were shocked because "He didn't hit a single thing on the way there. It was unreal." He also didn't run any red lights and went the speed limit.

As soon as the cops arrived, the young boy burst into tears because he hadn't realized that he was doing something wrong. He told police that all he wanted was a cheeseburger.

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/cheeseburger.png" srcset="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/cheeseburger_GH_content_550px.png 550w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/cheeseburger_GH_content_650px.png 650w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/cheeseburger_GH_content_750px.png 750w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/cheeseburger_GH_content_850px.png 850w, https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/cheeseburger_GH_content_950px.png 950w" sizes="89vw" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>

"I think there is a good teaching point here. With the way technology is kids will learn how to do anything and everything. This kid learned how to drive on YouTube. He probably looked it up for five minutes and then said it was time to go," Koehler said.

The parents rushed to the police station to pick up their kids and were baffled by the behavior. They explained that the kids had eaten a full breakfast, lunch and dinner that day so it wasn't as if the kids were hungry. They told police that they had spent the day playing outside and that was when the parents fell asleep.

<amp-img src="https://www.shared.com/content/images/2017/04/tumblr_oesu7egpKi1tklspfo1_500.png" title="" alt="" height="9" width="16" layout="responsive"></amp-img>

The kids were treated to a cheeseburger, chicken nuggets and fries while at the station and no charges we laid, but I guess it's a good tip to keep those keys somewhere your kids can't find them!
