8 Movie Stars We Had No Idea Could Actually Sing

Zimbio / Biography

In Hollywood, talent is rampant, and A-list celebrities are constantly impressing us with their skills in whatever their endeavors may be. While some could be labelled as a "one-tricky pony," others surprise the public by becoming an incredible double-act.

In that vein, here are eight actors/actresses who can belt out a tune.

1. Stephen Colbert

While Stephen Colbert was already a triplet-threat as an actor, comedian, and TV host, not many people knew he could also sing. Hehas won two Grammy awards for Best Comedy Album and Best Spoken-Word Album, and occasionally sings with some of his guests when they make an appearance on his show.

Earlier this year, Colbert hosted the 2017 Emmy Awards and performed a song featuring Chance the Rapper.

2. Scarlett Johansson

Famously known for her outstanding acting roles, Scarlett Johansson also has quite the voice. In 2007, Johnasson released an album of Tom Waits covers, and in 2016 was the voice of Ash in the animated musical, Sing.

3. Seth MacFarlane

In 20011, the creator of Family Guy, American Dad! and The Cleveland Show signed a record deal with Universal Republic Records, where he has released three albums. Seth MacFarlane has trained with the same vocal coaches as Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra, and has done collaborations with the former.

4. Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow is another actress who should be praised for her sensational singing chops. Along with starring in the musical drama, Country Strong, Paltrow also made a few guest appearances on Glee, as Holly Holliday.

5. Robert Downey Jr.

To us Robert Downey Jr. may be Iron Man, but before his rise to superhero fame, he had released his 2004 album,The Futurist.  His singing voice also made waves when he sung Sting's "Every Breath You Take" during his time on Ally McBeal.

6. Kate Winslet

While we know Kate Winslet as a critically-acclaimed actress who's played in critically acclaimed films such as Titanic, and The Reader, she took her shot with a music career by recording a track for the animated film, Christmas Carol: The Movie. Now we'll never have to wonder "What If."

7. Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has sung duets with his former co-star Zooey Deschanel, but it was his rendition of "Baby It's Cold Outside" with Lady Gaga that made us swoon. Should we expect a musical number in his next upcoming film?

8. Meryl Streep

What can't Meryl Streep do? The multiple award winner has amazed audiences for the past 40 years with her acting skills, but not many of us remember she can sing with the best of them. Streep has sung in her films, Mamma Mia!, Into the Woods, and Postcards from the Edge, just to name a few.
