We've all had days where it seems like nothing can go right. Whether you missed the bus, had a bad day at work, got stuck in traffic or got into a fight with your significant other, days can go from normal to horrible in minutes.
If you're like me when you're in a bad mood, usually the things that you're "supposed to do" to make yourself feel better, make you even angrier thinking about. "No I do not want to write down three great things about today, today was horrible!"
So here's a list of things you can do when you're having a bad day, that won't make you even angrier.
1. Vent
You shouldn't feel ashamed that you had a bad day, and sometimes it helps to get all your thoughts out of your head. Give yourself 10 minutes to get it off your chest. If you have a friend or someone you love nearby, simply vent about how crappy your day was, this could make you feel better afterwards. If you don't have someone nearby or you don't want to share why your day went badly, write in a journal, it will have the same effect.
2. Do something for yourself
Do something nice for yourself. This could be anything from doing a little retail therapy, getting your hair done, or painting your nails. Do anything for yourself that might make you a little happier.
3. Surround yourself with good people
If you have anyone around that you can spend time with, (and actually enjoy it) do it! This can take your mind off of the bad day you just had and maybe have fun as well. It helps if it's not a chore to hangout with this person, and if they can usually put a smile on your face.
4. Have a shower
Having a shower can act like a fresh start, as if you're washing off your day and starting new. It also helps if you can set up some sing-a-long music that you can scream-sing along to, this can get some anger out. If you want a more relaxing experience, take a bath with some bath salts or bubbles, this can definitely de-stress you.
5. Work out
Okay, this one may verge on something that you do not want to do when you've had a bad day, if so, skip over it, I will not hold anyone to this one. But, this is actually really helpful when you're angry after a bad day. Going for a run or even a walk can get your anger out super quickly, so give it a try... or not.
6. Netflix binge
This is the best therapy ever. Laying down on the couch or in bed after a bad day, and binge-watching your favorite show will most definitely put you in a better mood.
7. Comfort food
Your healthy chicken breast and salad can wait for tomorrow night. When you're having a bad day it is a perfect time to eat something greasy and unhealthy. I'm not a scientist so don't quote me on this, but I swear something in unhealthy food makes you feel 100% better emotionally. The later effects aren't so great but oh well, that's not a "right now" problem.
So if you're having a bad day, there are plenty of things you can do to make yourself feel better, that doesn't involve crap you don't want to do, and makes you even angrier thinking about.
