Although it has been said many times, it is worth repeating: one of the greatest indicators of our own spiritual maturity is revealed in how we respond to the weakness.
When you are a spiritually mature person, your response is with compassion and a sincere desire to understand another person's suffering/actions/beliefs.
For most people, this kind of maturity takes time and experience gained through valuable life lessons. For others, it is as natural as breathing.
If you want a good gauge for where you stand on the spectrum of spiritual maturity, see how you measure up to these five signs:
1. Your life is guided by a set of core principles and values
Spiritually immature people live their lives without awareness. They don't examine their own beliefs, values and assumptions that guide their actions.
However, mature people consciously and carefully develop life habits that are consistent with the core values of love, compassion, and empathy.
2. You are slow to anger and quick to forgive
One saying that perfectly illustrates immaturity goes like this: holding onto anger is like drinking poison and hoping that the other dies. A spiritually immature person holds grudges and dwells on the things that others did wrong.
If you are spiritually mature, you have learned how to constructively let go of the anger you're feeling and move on with your life.
3. You care deeply for others who have less
A spiritually immature person thinks only of themselves. But, the spiritually mature person is always aware that there are people in the world struggling to make ends meet. They know that for a society to be healthy, it must care for the weakest among them.
4. You see the world through the eyes of a child - but you're not naive
A spiritually immature person is easily jaded and choses to see the world as a bitter place. However, a spiritually mature person knows that the key to happiness is a lifelong sense of wonder and awe. Every moment is a gift and they are careful not to squander the present with negativity.
5. You are at peace with what cannot be changed
If you're spiritually immature, you're likely always worried about something beyond your control. Fretting about things that you cannot change or influence does nothing but drain you of energy.
Spiritually mature people know this, they accept what they can't control and focus only on what they can influence in the present.
