Walmart Issues Recall After Dead Bat Found Inside Packaged Salad

Walmart stores are being forced to recall a prepackaged salad after two customers reported a dead bat inside the box.

The customers were eating their Organic Marketside Spring Mix when they realized that the dead bat was just below the top layer of leaves.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the bat was sent to the lab to test for rabies but because the animal was deteriorated the results weren't conclusive.

The company is recalling the 5-ounce Organic Marketside Spring Mix packages with the production code D089B19 with an expiration date of April 14, 2017.

According to the recall announcement they should only be located in the southeastern region of the United States.

The couple who ate the salad are going through rabies treatment as a precaution, but the CDC does say that would be "extremely uncommon" for them to contract rabies after eating the salad.

"Both people report being in good health and neither has any sign of rabies," the CDC said in their statement.

If you have this salad, you can call their Consumer Response Center 1-800-242-5472 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Time to get more details.
